As we discussed in Part 1, there are numerous advantages to simplifying the hiring process, including the ability to attract top-level talent before someone else does, conserve resources, and react to a market where more people are finding jobs instead of sitting idle.

Here are some additional tips that may help.

1. Talk About Salary First

For many people, how much they’re getting paid is the most important question to consider, but many companies will tend to hide the actual compensation until later in the hiring process in order to convince a candidate to sign for other reasons. If this is a deal breaker for your applicant, state the expected salary up front (within the first 10 minutes of the interview) to save everyone’s time. Better yet, state the salary clearly on the job description.

2. Automate the Process

Many HR managers want to be in charge of the hiring process from start to finish. In order to make this easier, use applicant tracking software to filter out the applicants you know won’t make the cut. You should be able to assign different people to different tasks within the application, making the entire undertaking easier for everyone.

3. Do a Gut Check

The only thing worse than a single interview process is adding a second one, so after you’ve gone through all the potential candidates and utilized your ATS system to identify the ideal candidate, go back through their credentials to make sure you’re making the right decision. The last thing you want to do in your quest to hire faster is to make the wrong decision and repeat the whole process over again. Depending on what type of position you’re looking for, the hiring process can be anywhere from eight to 60 days, so do everything you can to get it right the first time.
